Glass Front Modern Home Wine Cellars: The Focal Point of a Dining Area
A prominent homeowner in a high-rise condominium in Torrey Pines, San Diego, California contacted our experts to seek help building a dedicated wine room in their dining area, next to the dining table.
The space was limited but the expertise and finesse design of our team made the modern home wine cellar possible and full of sophistication.
The modern wine cellar exudes elegance, enhancing the dining experience of the owners and their guests. Imagine having a meal while enjoying an impressive view of your wine collection illuminated by a dramatic lighting system.
The wine cellar was pushed back a few feet to provide case storage in the space between the glass front and the modern wine racks.
Modern Wine Racks Designed to Maximize Storage Capacity and Create an Eye-Catching Wine Display
With proper planning and design, Steve and his team developed a wine storage system with a total capacity of more than 1,000 bottles. The Ultra Wine Peg racking displays the bottles with flair. We utilized triple deep wall-mounted wine racks to maximize storage capacity in this California residential wine cellar.
The top and bottom sections of the racking installed in a rectangular glass enclosure consist of pegs that display the wine labels. The label forward orientation allows for easy perusal of the wines. Metal display wine racks from VintageView were installed in the middle of the wall, pitching the bottles at an angle.
Residential Glass Wine Cellar That Keeps Up with the Trend in Torrey Pines
This is a modern wine cellar built by our San Diego experts in a high-end home, using glass, metal, acrylic, and stone elements. With a strong passion for designing elegant wine rooms, the team did an excellent job creating a glass-enclosed wine cellar that looks like a contemporary art museum within your residential property.
The glass wine display acts as the partition of two areas in the house. It was elegantly placed in the dining area of this sophisticated home.
Tastefully Designed Metal Wine Racks
We installed Kessick’s ‘Wine as Art’ wine racks. The ‘Wine as Art’ pins are ideal for creating an illusion of bottles floating in midair. This style of racking can make any wine cellar space pop with minimalist yet luxurious features.
The top and bottom sections consist of horizontal display racking. The rest of the wine racks are made from metal bars and acrylic cradles, which looked perfect against a clean wall backing.
The LED lighting was placed to make the bottles look like they are floating in midair along a metal rod. With this racking, the bottles are displayed in a cork-forward orientation similar to the traditional wine racks made of wood.
Modern Glass Wine Cellar with Wine Racks from Maiden Steel
In this particular project, the homeowners wanted a unique look for their California glass wine cellar located in the kitchen. They wanted to focus on aesthetic appeal rather than bottle capacity.
We worked closely with the interior designer to determine all the client’s requirements and offer the most suitable wine storage solution.
The glass doors are made of dual-paned thermally insulated glass panels sealed within the metal frames.
Proper seal and insulation will prevent temperature fluctuations and varying humidity levels. Remember that condensation can build up if the wine room is not sealed correctly.
Ideal Design for the Wine Racks and Lighting System
Our designers created a custom wine racking design for 300 bottles. They consulted with Maiden Steel, a fabricator of metal wine racks known for their high-quality products and services. The steel structure for this project was made by them for the modern meal wine racks.
The vertical racking installed on a wall facing the kitchen countertop was intended for holding bottles of various sizes. For the lighting system, an acrylic panel was installed.
However, mounting the metal racking directly on it was not recommended because of a lack of stable support. What we did was install floor-to-ceiling custom steel beams across the ends of the light panels. For added stability, they welded the wine racks onto those beams.
You will find double-deep wine racks at the center of the racking designed for 750 ml bottles. We also included shelves on both sides of the wine cellar walls intended for large-format bottles, including Magnums, Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, and Syrah Bordeaux. A full-length angled display row was installed in the middle of the modern racking, illuminated with an LED-backlit panel.
